Why oh why is my son so selfish...he refuses to pay board and lodging, refuses to get a job and expects me to?

pay for everything....this is so unreasonable, i try to explain to myself and his mother cant look after him all his life and that he has to take respocibility and at his age (he is now 7) he should be down the mines or cleaning chimneys.....why are kids so selfish these days?
